Review of the Build The Bot Days 2024

jtel Build The Bot Days 2024 – A unique event in Ottobrunn

On 21 and 22 November, we hosted the very first Build The Bot Days in Ottobrunn – or should we say the first of their kind in the world? Five teams developed their own chat bot and voice bot solutions based on the jtel platform, which can be used directly in their companies in the future. The participating companies were: htp GmbH, Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V., NEXT NOZ Expert Team GmbH & Co. KG, Stuttgarter Lebensversicherung a.G. and wedi GmbH. A huge thank you to all the teams for their commitment and dedication! The participants received support from our experienced colleagues from the jtel development tea

Intensive preparation – the foundation for success

Our preparations were already in full swing days before the event. As the development took place directly on the customer’s systems, stable and high-performance access had to be guaranteed. In addition, access to relevant backend systems and databases had to be set up according to requirements. Subscriptions for language processing and AI platforms also had to be provided. These tasks proved to be challenging from case to case, but all environments were ready for use on time on Wednesday morning. The Build The Bot Days could begin.

Tag 1: Der Startschuss

After the participants arrived at our premises, the day began with a short briefing. Each team was given a workstation and was supervised by a jtel employee. Shortly afterwards, a busy and professional atmosphere prevailed: the participants immersed themselves in their projects and worked with great concentration. Some were so committed that they only took breaks for coffee or lunch when pushed. Despite the intensive work, the first results were not long in coming: some teams began their first tests in the afternoon. Even though these prototypes were still some way from being ready for use, it was still motivating to see the ideas taking shape. The office was closed punctually at 6 p.m. and even the hardest-working developers were now feeling hungry and, above all, thirsty.

Day 2: Fine-tuning and competition

After a relaxed evening, everyone gathered again at the jtel headquarters on Thursday morning to further develop and finalise their projects. On this day, the focus was on intensive testing, tuning and – if necessary – redesigning individual features. Among other things, GPT queries (OpenAI) were integrated directly from the jtel routing application as an example for routing decisions in order to utilise AI-supported results in the workflows. AI played a central role in almost all layers of bot development.

The spirit of competition was omnipresent: all the teams went the extra mile to impress the jury and their fellow competitors. The evaluation was not only carried out by the jury – consisting of personalities from the European contact centre scene – but also by the other participants. The criteria assessed were: Implementation of requirements, customer centricity (CX), response accuracy and relevance, creativity and the business case.

Crowning finale: the award ceremony

The second day came to an end far too quickly, and at 5 pm it was time to leave for the award ceremony at Paulaner am Nockherberg. The highlight of the event was celebrated with a cosy Bavarian dinner. Now the most difficult part began for the jury: choosing the best solution. Even though the clever evaluation criteria provided structure, the decision was not easy, as all teams delivered excellent results. However, it was clear that all of them emerged as winners.

In the end, wedi GmbH came out on top – albeit only just – and was honoured by the jury with a special prize. Congratulations! Special thanks go to our professional and friendly jury: Markus Kugler, Martin Bürstenbinder and Olena Iosifov. They emphasised again and again how high the performance density was in this competition. The Build The Bot Days 2024 were a complete success and a promising start for hopefully many more jtel events in the future. Many thanks to everyone involved!
